Why is my position always opened with a floating loss?

It is common to see a floating loss as soon as you open a trade on MT4/5. This mainly happens because of the spread, which is the difference between the buy and sell price. In fast-moving markets, slippage can also cause your order to be filled at a slightly different price.

 

If you keep a position overnight, swap charges may add to the cost as well. These are normal trading conditions, and your trade can still move into profit once the market moves in your favor.
